Propose Reforms to Increase Parental Involvement in Public Education

QUEENS - Public Advocate candidate Bill de Blasio and Councilmember Julissa Ferreras joined forces today at PS 19 in Corona, Queens, to call on the Department of Education (DOE) to implement de Blasio's Public School Parents' Bill of Rights for the new school year. The ten point Bill of Rights would greatly increase parental involvement in public education and give parents a stronger voice in their children's future.

New York- Public Advocate candidate Bill de Blasio today announced a proposal to increase transparency and accountability, and encourage parental involvement in New York City's public education system. As Public Advocate, de Blasio will hold borough education forums to bring schools and communities together, and he will make Department of Education (DOE) data easily accessible to the public on the Public Advocate's website.

NEW YORK - Councilmember Bill de Blasio today applauded the new and improved recycling programs in New York City public schools that will dramatically increase recycling efforts in the City's education system.  The Department of Education (DOE) has tripled the number of School Recycling Coordinators and provided recycling training for public schools, following aggressive lobbying from de Blasio.

Today, I am very proud that the Council voted to pass Resolution 1281, which calls for greater religious freedom in our schools. New York - Councilmember Bill de Blasio issued the following statement regarding the vote to build a new, expanded  PS 133 for school districts 13 and 15 in Brooklyn, which was approved yesterday by the City Council.  According to the SCA, the new school design will incorporate significant features of the existing PS 133 building, will have green LEED architecture, an early childhood playground and schoolyard, and a replacement community garden. The new and expanded PS 133 will accommodate approximately 900 students.

20 Reasons in 20 Days: Conclusion of A Countdown Campaign to Reform and Reauthorize Mayoral Control
