De Blasio Applauds City for Putting Hand Sanitizers in Classrooms to Protect Children from Swine Flu

NEW YORK - Bill de Blasio today applauded the City Department of Education (DOE) and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) for adopting his recommendation to put hand sanitizers in school classrooms to protect children from swine flu.  Immediately following the first announcement of swine flu infections in April, de Blasio called for the City to take this preventive measure, introducing Council resolution 2048 and sending repeated letters to DOE and DOHMH.

De Blasio Criticizes City for Ignoring Swine Flu Prevention Proposal

NEW YORK – Councilmember Bill de Blasio today criticized the City for ignoring alternative proposals to prevent the spread of swine flu and increase community outreach. 

Over a month and a half ago when the first cases of swine flu were reported, de Blasio sent letters to the Mayor and agency heads calling for the installation of hand sanitizers in all school classrooms, a measure that would cost approximately 70 cents per student and would help prevent further spread of the illness.
