NEW YORK – Bill de Blasio’s campaign for Public Advocate today raised the bar on fundraising and petitioning, announcing that it collected $221,570 in contributions in its latest filing, more than it has raised in any previous filing. The campaign has raised a total $243,615 in matchable contributions, which currently makes it eligible to receive approximately $1,461,690 in public financing.
NEW YORK – Public Advocate Candidate Bill de Blasio today held a press conference with Assemblymember Hakeem Jeffries, Councilmember Letitia James, and other elected leaders at the Clinton Hill house where an army veteran, Shem Walker, was shot and killed by an undercover police officer last weekend. Following this tragedy, de Blasio joined local leaders to demand an independent investigation of the incident, and called for reforming the Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB) to ensure greater accountability in
New York – Bill de Blasio today announced that he has reached over one hundred endorsements, as his campaign for Public Advocate enters the final two months before primary day. De Blasio’s expanding coalition is one of the largest ever built in a contested citywide race, including endorsements from a wide range of elected officials, labor organizations, and democratic clubs.
“I have always believed that building a large and diverse coalition is the key to creating real change in government.
"Right now, unemployment in New York City's African American Communities is a mounting crisis, and the disparity in jobless rates between white and black New Yorkers is truly disturbing. We must quickly develop an aggressive and comprehensive plan to address unemployment in our City, and give this massive problem the urgent attention it deserves. Any plan for recovery must include preserving existing jobs, and supporting minority-owned businesses, particularly in this harsh economic climate.
NEW YORK - District Council 37, New York City's largest public employees union, today endorsed Bill de Blasio for Public Advocate. With 125,000 members, DC 37 represents workers in numerous City industries, including day care, construction, hospitals, schools, libraries, and social service centers. De Blasio has received more endorsements than any other candidate in the Public Advocate race, including support from a strong coalition of labor unions.
New York - Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch today announced his endorsement of Bill de Blasio for Public Advocate.
"This month hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers living in poverty will receive a much needed boost in their welfare grants. For almost twenty years welfare grants have remained at a bare-bones level while prices and the cost of living have skyrocketed. I applaud Governor Paterson for having the courage to support New York City's low-income families who, now more than ever, need our help to stay on their feet."
Department of Education Triples Number of School Recycling Coordinators after Requests from De Blasio
NEW YORK - Councilmember Bill de Blasio today applauded the new and improved recycling programs in New York City public schools that will dramatically increase recycling efforts in the City's education system. The Department of Education (DOE) has tripled the number of School Recycling Coordinators and provided recycling training for public schools, following aggressive lobbying from de Blasio.
Mark-Viverito Endorses de Blasio for Public Advocate; Team Up to Propose New NYCHA Security Measures
"At tonight’s Working Families Party candidate forum, Mayor Bloomberg claimed that more people are choosing to stay in homeless shelters because they have become more attractive during his tenure. It is insulting to the almost 35,000 people who spent last night in a shelter to say that they were there out of choice, not out of necessity. I am running for Public Advocate because we need real solutions for our City’s homeless population, not out of touch excuses,” said Bill de Blasio.
